Happy Halloween

Vi har vært på Halloweenfest. Ungene spiste godteri til de fikk vondt i magen. Jeg har laget kostymer til hele familien unttatt dalmatineren.

We spent the night at a Halloween party. It eas fun, and the kids ate too much candy. I made costumes for the whole family except the dalmation.

Klar for vinteren

My kids believe that as soon as November comes there will be winter and snow. But there's not much chance of snow here yet as we live on the west coast where there's mostly rain during winter months.
But I'm ready for snow with my new mittens. Pattern by Jared Flood from Vogue knitting Fall 2008. Knitted in alpaca.

Blue Tit

Inspired by Tulipaner og Tomater, I've started recycling old embroderies. My first attemt was this bag. And now this lovely little bird. The bag pattern is from Anne-Pia Godske Rasmussens book "Hånd i Hanke".

Easy jeans fixing tutorial

I have three young sons, so jeans whith wholes are well known around here. It's a known fact that fitting those tiny little pants under the sewing machine is almost impossible. But if you use your darning foot it can be as easy as pie.
You need some vliesofix, a darning foot and some sturdy fabric. I use denim.

Iron vliesofix unto the denim, and pull the paper off.

Cut the denim into suitable pieces. I usually make a whole stack when I'm at it.
Zigzag the patches. I use my serger because it's fast and the seam looks nice.

Iron the patches to the pants.

Use the darning foot and set your machine as if you were free motion quilting.
Sew around the patch. I also like to make a few seams across to make sure it will stay put.

All done! I hope you find this useful. Good luck.

The dressmaker

Remember my post about the vintage green dress. Here's my mom wearing her dress to a wedding in 1972. So young and beautiful. And look at that hair. Isn't it gorgeous??

I love orange

Our sweet friend Kimberly is moving to Germany for a few years, so last night we had a little surprise goodbye party for her. A big thanks to Andreas for delicious food. We had king crab, chantarelle soup and grouse. Dessert was chocolate mousse.

Mini face lift

I've done a litte face lift on our hall and entrance. I was tired of all the black furniture. Mainly because dust is very visable on black. So I painted everything white. The stairs also needed a coat of fresh white. I've made a new rush seat on the little thriftet stool on the left.
What startet the whole thing was this post over at Frøken Paris.

Here's the hall before.

Entrance before

The rest of the hall is the African corner of our home. I've bought the masks and batik in Madagascar. My mom bought the carpenter's tool chest at a garage sale.

Book covers

I've had these two little emroderies lying around in my studio for a while. I redescovered them yesterday when I was trying to do some organizing.
I just added a few scaps and now I have two new book covers. My studio is still a mess though.
